Making a bonnet was difficult. How did you cut and fold them? In 1922, a sister sent the bonnet of a deaconess friend from Mannheim. They wanted to take this as a model. But by the time the starched and ironed fabric had been copied, nobody knew how it had looked when folded. So they tried and tried until the sisters found a fold that they liked – and the Liebenzell bonnet was born.
