Liebenzeller Mission

A widow sent us the jewellery with which she had adorned herself in the days of her life on earth, and how the diamonds flashed on her dress! But now they sparkle as a reward for our Saviour’s pain. China’s Millions, January 1936 The hardest work of a missionary: One of our missionaries writes about this: “By far the majority of missionary friends do not want to hear about our difficulties, hardships and setbacks, about failures, which are nevertheless present in every mission work, but about marvellous victories, wonderful experiences. That is why writing reports is often – thank God not always – one of the hardest jobs of a missionary. You want to write marvellous reports to cheer up your friends. To get real prayer help, you also want to write about difficulties and failures.” We would like to openly comment on this sigh of one of our brothers. We are in favour of unvarnished reports. That would be a weak faith that cannot look the difficulties on the mission field in the eye, but only wants to hear about glorious victories. We do not want to pull the wool over our dear readers’ eyes with our reports, but we want them to know how our brothers and sisters are faring out there, through what trials and difficulties they have to go through, how even Elijah’s hours under the juniper bush are not lacking, but how in the midst of darkness and despair the marvellous light from on high breaks in again and again and gives the weary servants strength and power enough for the incapable. The more truthful our reports become, the stronger the powers of prayer before the face of God will be strained, the stronger the obligation will be felt to intercede for sinking arms and to do the service of Aaron and Hur.
